Rebuilding the Village: Who We Are

Rebuilding the Village — formerly Park Avenue Youth & Family Services — works to bring families together so they can become each other's support network in the very places where our social systems fall short. Too often, children and families slip through the cracks of the systems meant to protect them.

As we watched our communities change over the past several years, we realized we also had to evolve in order to truly serve the families we care about so deeply. We saw that the "village" many of us grew up with was no longer there for many of our children. Missing were the aunties, uncles, grandmas, and grandpas who once nurtured, supported, and guided us when we needed it.

As we weighed the changes needed to become what our communities require, we decided to transform not only our programming but also our name and our mission statement.

Why We Rebuilt the Village

We chose the name Rebuilding the Village because that is exactly our goal: to help restore the village support systems children and families need in order to feel safe, supported, seen, and loved.

As we looked ahead, we asked parents what they needed and wanted from our organization. We took their input and began shaping our programming around their wishes, and we expect our programming to keep evolving as our families' needs evolve.

So here we are — growing and changing alongside our families, becoming the strong Village that will guide our children into adulthood as positive, healthy, productive, and compassionate members of the Village.

We will keep offering academic programming, but children cannot learn academics until their most basic needs are met. So we will meet those needs, and together we will struggle, laugh, and grow.

How Families Shape Our Programming

We are excited to see what the future holds for all of us. Families guide what we offer, and their voices keep our Village moving forward.
