The Rebuilding the Village Summer Program
Summer in the Village is a six-week program built for elementary and middle school youth, guiding our scholars as they learn what it really takes to be a positive part of the Village. Along the way they practice caring for one another, working together, encouraging each other, building side by side, and enjoying the journey as a community.
What Our Scholars Focus On
- Self Empowerment — Scholars learn to use their voices in constructive ways, share their own stories in their own words, and speak up when they see injustice.
- Social Justice — Scholars dig into the history of the social justice movement, the essential part young people have always played in it, and how they can get actively involved in their own communities.
- Cultural History — Scholars discover their heritage, where they come from, the important figures in history, and the real truth behind this country's history.
- Education — Scholars build up their literacy and math skills and put them to use in everyday situations like reading contracts, filling out job applications, counting change, or balancing a checkbook.

At the heart of Summer in the Village is the belief that young people grow strongest when they learn together. Through self empowerment, social justice, cultural history, and education, scholars build the skills and confidence to take part in their community — and to see themselves as part of the Village.
