Summer in the Village: Six Weeks of Growth for Young Scholars
Summer in the Village is a six-week program built for elementary and middle school youth. Its aim is to help scholars learn what it really takes to be a caring, constructive member of the Village — watching out for each other, working as a team, encouraging one another, building together, and finding joy along the way.
What Scholars Discover
- Self Empowerment — Scholars learn to use their voices constructively: sharing their own stories in their own words and speaking out when they see injustice.
- Social Justice — Scholars dig into the history of the social justice movement, the lasting part young people have played in it, and how they can get involved in justice work within their own communities.
- Cultural History — Scholars study their heritage and roots, the notable figures who shaped history, and the true story behind this country's past.
- Education — Scholars build up literacy and math skills and learn to put them to use in daily life — reading contracts, filling out job applications, counting change, or balancing a checkbook.
What Scholars Gain
Across six weeks, Summer in the Village weaves together self empowerment, social justice, cultural history, and education so scholars can build confidence, strengthen community, and pick up practical life skills — all together.
